WCCC Health Science Grad Pursuing Her Career, Degree

We caught up with WCCC Class of 2019 alumna Grace Delcamp recently, Franklin, Health Science, and she is doing well at Wright State University.

Here’s what she had to say about her experience at WCCC and in college: “My experience at the career center was atypical, because most go into pre-nursing assuming that they want to become a nurse. Though with job shadow experience and learning more about the medical field I soon realized I wanted to either pursue medical school or Physician Assistant school. I am attending Wright State University, majoring in psychology with a pre-health focus. I am currently finishing my last semester as a sophomore as I completed multiple CCP classes in high school, and I should graduate a year early.”

To current students in high school considering the benefits of career-technical education, she advises: “I would definitely recommend going over your options, figuring out if a career in your chosen field is something you want to pursue. I would recommend talking with teachers about the curriculum and job outlook in your field. It’s not an easy decision to make leaving your current high school, but if it’s something you are serious about, I guarantee the career center will make the transition as easy as possible, giving you so many opportunities that you wouldn’t have thought was possible. I also would love students to know that a career tech education prepares you for life after school if college isn’t for you. You have the ability to have a great career going straight into the workforce after school, and if college is what you want to pursue, then you absolutely have the ability to further your education.”

Pre-Nursing Instructor Barb Patterson stays in touch with her former student and said, “I couldn't be prouder of all she has accomplished. She had some significant challenges while she was in my lab and consistently worked her tail off to catch up when she got behind. I agree with all that she said about the benefits possible at the WCCC, but I would add that she was that extra ingredient. With all that we offer, we need students with the drive and curiosity to find their path and follow it.”
