Landsman Explains His No Vote On SAVE America Act

WARREN COUNTY, OH -- In Congressman Greg Landsman's newsletter this week, he explains why he voted no on the SAVE America Act that was passed by the House this week.

"I voted no. Here’s what it is, why I’m opposed, and what we should be doing instead," Landsman wrote. Landsman noted that while Congressional Republicans say the bill is about election security and preventing noncitizens from voting, he explained that noncitizen voting is already illegal.

"It almost never happens and when it does, it’s caught," he wrote.

Landsman explained that what the bill does is...

  • Requires Americans to provide additional proof of citizenship — like a passport or birth certificate — just to register to vote.
  • Forces people who register online or by mail to appear in person with those documents.
  • Imposes new ID requirements that millions of Americans don’t have.

'If this bill becomes law, 21 million American citizens could lose their ability to vote — including people who are already registered," he wrote adding, "We should absolutely protect our elections. Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of our democracy."

Landsman gave ideas on what should be done...

  • Automatically register every eligible citizen to vote at 18
  • End partisan gerrymandering
  • Ban dark money in politics
  • Make voting secure, simple, and accessible

'That’s part of the broader democracy reforms we’ve been fighting for — returning power back to the American people and restoring trust. We’ve written extensively about this in our Great American Comeback plan," wrote Landsman adding,  "I’ll keep fighting to protect election integrity and protect the right to vote."
