WARREN COUNTY, OH -- In celebration of National Volunteer Month, The Home Depot Foundation and Team Depot, the Home Depot’s associate volunteer force, are rolling up their sleeves to give back to veterans and local communities through hands-on service projects across America, and specifically, in Maineville, Ohio.

The Home Depot Foundation, a non-profit supported by the Home Depot, works to improve the homes and lives of U. S. veterans, support communities impacted by natural disasters, and train skilled tradespeople to fill the labor gap. Since 2011, the Foundation has invested more than $550 million in veteran causes and improved more than 65,000 veteran homes and facilities. The Foundation has pledged to invest $750 million in veteran causes by 2030 and $50 million in training the next generation of skilled tradespeople through the Path to Pro Program by 2028.

As part of the National Volunteer Campaign, the Milford Home Depot teamed up with the Gary Sinise Foundation helping in the construction of a specially adapted smart home designed to meet the accessibility needs of a local Marine injured in his military service while stationed in Afghanistan.

Home Depot volunteers are building shelving and assembling toolboxes in the woodworking shop, improving the work life balance with efficient workspace; this Marine has a passion for woodworking, and can launch a woodworking business on a blank page in a new shop.

These Home Depot volunteers constructed outdoor patio furniture and furnished a grill for family gathering. The Marine family requested “edible” landscaping; they will choose the desired vegetation plants; volunteers will plant them. And, an engraved memorial bench, also built by the Home Depot volunteers, overlooks a small lake on the property dedicated to the two warfighters who lost their lives in the same conflict that forever injured the Maineville Marine.

Throughout April, Team Depot will partner with Rebuilding Together and Volunteers of America affiliates and other non-profit partners in more than a dozen cities to address critical accessibility needs for veterans, including building ramps, widening doorways, and making other essential home modifications. The projects are part of the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to improving the homes and lives of veterans and local communities in need.

During this time when numerous events, campaigns, and initiatives are organized to celebrate volunteerism and to encourage participation, “How can you participate?”

Participate by being a volunteer, spread the word about volunteering opportunities, and express gratitude to volunteers and veterans in your community.
