WAYNESVILLE, OH -- Recently, I enjoyed a delicious and “down home” style lunch at the Village Family Restaurant in Waynesville. Shades of “the good old days” and the traditional “drop by” neighborhood restaurant are the vibes of this eatery.
With a convenient location in the heart of Waynesville, there is easy parking in the front lot and ample seating indoors or on the patio outside. Friendly servers give you a large menu with breakfast, lunch and dinner entrees, which is a surprise for this small restaurant.
What is exceptional about this place is the variety of “old fashioned” cooking. By this, I am talking about the Lunch Special of the day. The Day we went the special was Cabbage Rolls. This was served topped with Sauerkraut also served with Mashed Potatoes and Peas and Onions. Homemade Bread (and butter) on the side for $11.95. Beverage was extra.
Everyday a different special which might be Meatloaf or Chicken and Dumplings or Liver and Onions etc. They also have an extensive sandwich menu and pizza. My lunch partner tried the John Brown Bacon Burger with fries for $12.95.
We both couldn’t resist dessert and split a piece of Homemade Peanut Butter Pie, a house specialty.
Other choices for lunch also include their “PICK TWO” entrees where you can choose a ½ salad or ½ sandwich or soup for $11.95. Bargain entrees include: Grilled Cheese ($6.50) or Tuna Melt ($7.95) Everything we saw served look really good and definitely would be good options. Beverages are $2.99. For our lunch for 2- with the Special, the Bacon Burger, 2 beverages and one piece of pie totaled up with tax and tip around $40.00.
There is also a dinner menu with slightly higher prices. They have carryout for all the meals.
The Village Family Restaurant is located at 144S Main St. Waynesville, OH 45068. It Is open 8 am- 8 pm EVERYDAY!! Free parking. No reservations. Info: villagefamilyrestaurant.com
There is a bit of bad news in that the family, who has had this restaurant for over 40 years, is looking to sell... so go soon! If you love home cooking and the atmosphere of an “old fashion country restaurant” you will love this place and just maybe you will see me on a return trip!
