WARREN COUNTY, OH -- Both Franklin Township (unincorporated area) and the village of Harveysburg are asking their voters for an increase in their property tax to help with road infrastructure... "purpose of general construction, reconstruction, resurfacing, and repair of streets, roads, and bridges."
Franklin Township's tax increase for a 1 mil levy is for a continuing period of time commencing in 2026, first due in calendar year 2027. The township's levied money, if passed, will also be able to be used... "for constructing, rehabilitating, repairing, or maintaining sidewalks, walkways, trails, bicycle pathways, or similar improvements or acquiring ownership interests in land necessary for the foregoing improvements."
The county auditor estimates the levy will collect $449,567 annually, at a rate not exceeding 1 mill for each $1 of taxable value, which amounts to $35 for each $100,000 of the county auditor's market value. A majority affirmative vote is necessary for passage.
(Residents who live in the township, but live in the city municipalities of Carlisle, Franklin or Middletown will not vote on this issue nor be taxed if passed.)
The proposed levy would be for 5 years commencing in 2026, with it first being due in calendar year 2027. A majority affirmative vote is necessary for passage.
The county auditor estimates the additional levy would collect $67,250 annually, at a rate not exceeding 3 mills for each $1 of taxable value, which amounts to $105 for each $100,000 of the county auditor's market value.
