LANDSMAN RAISED FIVE TIMES MORE THAN REPUBLICAN OPPONENT IN FIRST QUARTER

LEBANON, OH -- On Monday, Rep. Greg Landsman (OH-01) announced raising over $600,000 in the first quarter of 2024, outraising Republican candidate Orlando Sonza by over $479,000 and demonstrating his campaign’s clear momentum heading into the on-year. This cycle, Landsman has raised over $2,130,000 and has more than $1,650,000 on hand, while his opponent reported $159,000 in the bank – a 10:1 cash on hand advantage for Landsman. Unlike his opponent, Landsman does not accept corporate PAC money.
This news from the first quarter’s FEC reports confirms a familiar pattern. Already this cycle, all three major race-rating agencies have moved this race from “toss up” to “likely dem”.¹ Last month, Cook Political Report cited Sonza’s “anemic” fundraising and Landsman’s “moderate political brand” as reason for the rating change. Yesterday’s reports only further support their assessment.
Sonza’s lack of financial support, both locally and nationally, is unsurprising. In a district that voted to codify reproductive freedoms by 26 points just last year, Landsman’s opponent has committed to national bans on abortion, IVF, and gay marriage. He said his priority is re-electing former President Trump, and he supports policies that would make it easier for teens and criminals to get guns. Moreover, while Landsman has deep roots and a record of public service in Southwest Ohio, his opponent lives in someone else’s congressional district.
