La Comedia: Murder on Orient Express

SPRINGBORO, OH -- At this time of year, it's important to find a way to escape the cold dreary Ohio winter for a few hours, and La Comedia may just be the answer! The opening 2026 show: MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS is a play based on the Agatha Christie novel, that is laced with humor and a much lighter "take" than older films made of this story.

The plot revolves around Hercule Poirot, the Belgian detective and his trip to Paris from Turkey via the ORIENT EXPRESS train. Playing the lead is popular regional actor (and director), David Shough. He is in total command of the stage the entire play and is a perfect Poirot.

Jacob Herr is the main supporting actor in this drama and is indeed well matched as Constantine Bouc with Shough’s character. As there is no female lead, the standout supporting actress is Karie-Lee Sutherland, who is a familiar face to La Comedia audiences for her many musical performances. She brings enthusiasm and humor to her portrayal of Helen Hubbard, the obnoxious American tourist.

The cast of this play relies heavily on the ensemble work of many supporting players. This includes: Hayley Martin as the prayerful Greta Olsson, Meghan Slowik as the beautiful Countess Andrenyi, Becky Saunders as the mysterious Princess Dragomiroff, Jonathan Pendergrass as Ratchett’s shy secretary, Hector MacQueen, Ty Smith in the dual roles of Scottish Colonel Arbuthnot and Samuel Ratchell, Lily Walton as the sweet Mary Debenham and Jordan Wolfe, who serves as a Turkish waiter and the ongoing role of Michel the reliable conductor.

Amazing about this show is the converting of the La Comedia stage into the various scenes of the train, which include interiors of the dining car and sleeper areas. These change easily and quickly on a revolving stage. The direction of ORIENT EXPRESS by Chris Beiser and the tech support of this production by Kris Byerly and Aubrie-Lee Dentino should not be underestimated.

This entertaining show should definitely be put on your January and early February “to do" list. Getting out of the house for a great evening for the show and dinner,  plus it's close to home, is all you need to lighten up the winter chill. Average ticket prices run around $75.00 per person, which includes dinner and the play. Parking is easy, close and always FREE.

TIP: Diverse ticket packages for the coming year for as low as $50.00 per show are possible options you may want to take advantage of. With some great shows coming up like SINGING IN THE RAIN and JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, you won’t want to miss or be closed out of due to being SOLD OUT.
